FACES Peace of Mind Lecture: Epilepsy 101 - Adult Patients
In this webinar, Dr. Friedman will provide an overview of basics of epilepsy for patients and their families. Topics that will be discussed include what are seizures and what are the different types of seizures; what is epilepsy and the different types of epilepsies; conditions that often coexist with epilepsy; how anti-seizure medications work; seizure safety and first aid; seizure action plans; and living with and self-managing epilepsy. This talk is geared to teen and adult patients and caregivers who are new to a diagnosis of seizures or epilepsy but all are welcome. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers during the webinar.

About the presenter: Daniel Friedman, MD, MSC is an Epileptologist and a Clinical Neurophysiologist at the NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. He is a Professor in the Department of Neurology at NYU Langone School of Medicine and co-director of the video-EEG laboratory. He received his medical degree from Case Western University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his internship at NYU Langone Health and his neurology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at the Neurological Institute, Columbia University Medical Center. His research interests include device and drug development for epilepsy care, understanding and preventing epilepsy-related mortality and epilepsy prevention.
